Vacuum Options

All PI piezo translators can be safely used in a vacuum outside the range from 10 to 0.01 Torr (see Vacuum Application of PZTs in "Tutorial: Piezoelectrics in Positioning" section, click here for discussion). For applications that require reduced outgassing, the P-703.10 and P-703.20 high vacuum options are available.
P-703.10 UHV (for non preloaded PZTs)
The translators are delivered as bare ceramic stacks without a case. The PZTs can be baked up to 150 °C. The electrical connection is via two 50 cm long Teflon leads without connector. The nominal displacement of the Piezo is reduced by about 20 % (due to the stiff insulation materials). P-703.10 includes P-702.10 if ordered with HVPZTs.P-703.20 UHV (for preloaded PZTs)
The piezo ceramics are enclosed in a stainless steel case with vent holes. The PZTs can be baked to 150 °C. The electrical connection is via two 50 cm Teflon leads without connector. All PI standard Piezo translators are negative polarity devices. The operating voltage is negative; the case is positive/GND. With the P-705.00 option HVPZTs can be operated with positive polarity.
Case (GND) is negative (black lead).
Operating voltage is positive (red lead).P-706.xx Water Protected Case
The water protected case is recommended if PZTs are used in applications where high humidity or spray of coolants, oil, water, etc. might jeopardize the piezo ceramics. It consists of a specially sealed steel case with integrated flexure zones. Please call for Dimensionss and further details.

P-844.xx, P-845.xx, P-242.30/40, P-243.30/40, P-246.xx, P-247.xx.
Ball tips
To avoid bending moments and shear forces on the Piezo ceramics, the translators are available with a ball tip instead of the standard top piece. Dimensionss are given in the drawings for the individual translators. Note that due to the point contact of the ball tip, the stiffness of the system is reduced.
